Editorial Reviews

Canadian Children's Book News
"In her debut picture book, Lily and the Paper Man, Rebecca Upjohn does a remarkable job of realistically portraying an important social issue through the eyes of a child Ö The emotion and candor captured by this story are beautifully brought to life in RennÈ Benoitís soft yet bright watercolors."
Children's Literature - Suzanna E. Henshon
One day, Lily and her mother run into a gruff-looking man who is selling papers in the street. At first, Lily is afraid of this man and does everything she can to avoid seeing him. But as the snow falls and winter begins, Lily begins to worry about The Paper Man. She notices the holes in his boots and coat, and worries that he is cold. So Lily decides to gather clothes and old items that she is no longer using at home to give to The Paper Man so he will be warm. She spends all her savings on a new pair of gloves and a scarf. Finally, Lily cannot wait to give her present to this man; she begs her parents to wake up early one morning so they can make a delivery. In this delightful story, parents and children will enjoy reading about a little girl who learns to appreciate what she has and to share her good fortune with someone who has much less. The wonderful illustrations enhance a story that deals with a difficult topic in a sensitive way. Reviewer: Suzanna E. Henshon, Ph.D.
