Overview

Lily Chin, the high-energy, in-demand designer twice named the "Fastest Crocheter in the World," shares her surprisingly simple technique for crocheting intricate color patterns. Mosaic crochet starts with rows of simple single crochet stitches, working with one color on a row at a time. The interlocking color patterns come from "dropping" long double crochet stitches from the working row to another row below.

This softcover perfect-bound book presents 40 afghans to fit a host of decors and 9 other projects (stole and hat, tea cozy and place mat, rug and pillow, women's vest and jacket, and men's pullover). Pattern stitch multiples are given for each design so that crocheters can also use the patterns to develop their own projects.

Ever look at the knitted afghans and wish you knew how to knit so you could make one like that? Ms. Chin provides a crochet method that gives the look of knitting to crochet work. I don¿t even know where to start there are so many wonderful designs to choose from. Afghans, of course, then there are place mats, a stole and hat, a tea cozy, rugs, pillows, vests and jackets. The stitches are simple but look complicated. They are ¿stretches¿ over rows below to create what Mr. Chin calls a long stitch. She uses long double crochet along with Front Post treble crochet and other regular crochet stitches to create wonderful looking pieces. Each designs gives a list of materials needed to complete the item, gauge and finished size and an explanation of any special stitches used before the pattern itself begins. The patterns are written in a clear and understandable manner. A color photo of the design show what the finished item will look like. The colors chosen for the design are wonderful but, of course, you can change them to suit your décor. There are five pages of general directions that show what each basic stitch looks like and how to create it. The charts included in this section are math conversion from metric to US numbers, crochet abbreviations and crochet hook sizes. In short, everything a crocheter will need to make Ms. Chin¿s designs. This 140+ page book will provide hours of crocheting fun and you will end up with a great gift or a beautiful addition to your own home.
