Meet the Author

Paul Kater was born in the Netherlands in 1960. He quickly developed a feel for languages but did not pursue a career in those as his native language, Dutch, did not offer many options in that time. After learning far too much about computers he started to make a living with them. During all that time he always wrote short stories, little things to entertain family and friends and also himself with.Since 2003 he's been writing more seriously, first posting his scribblings on an amateur writer's mailing list, and then publishing shorter and longer stories on the internet. Due to the international character of the Internet, all Paul's stories so far are written in English.Paul currently lives in Cuijk, in the Netherlands, with his two cats, his books and the many characters he's developed in the past years, who claim he is a figment of their imagination.Visit the author at paulkater.com

I found these 3 stories to be different from the type of writing I usually read. But, being a follower of the author, I thought I would give them a try. The book is a very quick read. But, all three stories kept my interest and they all have an open ending, leaving room for expansion of the characters and sequels. I really enjoy all of Paul Kater's writing, so I would recommend giving this a quick try.

There was no satisfaction at the end of any of these stories. I wasn't even left wanting more. The steam punk portrayal to this story is sadly scarce. It is hinted at, but no more than that. Read it if you must, it was free.

The stories here are decent, but a little too quick in the pace. They could do with some slowing down, and fleshing out of the world. More descriptions between the action - it's almost as if the author rushed to the action scenes and glossed over the non-action simply as text to bridge them. The climaxes came quickly, without much pretext at all. I almost get the impression they're simply transcripts from RPGs sessions... They aren't bad stories, in fact they could be great with just a little more detail on the world provided in them.

It was free so I decided to check it out without any real expectations. Not only was pleasantly surprised, but I can't wait to read more from this author. Read it & enjoy.

This author's improper use of language makes these stories very difficult to read. I did not enjoy this at all.

Generally I don't care for the steampunk genre, but this is one of the best written and edited self-published books I have ever read. I will read more by this author

These stories were interesting with a believable heroine. However, the writing style is underdeveloped, but will probably get better in the author's other works. While some of the plotline is childish, these stories are worth the time. Also, Lily's superhero moniker is unimaginative. This book is best for people just getting into steampunk or just looking for an enjoyable quick read.

Just finished reading this and the 2nd installment of Lily Marin's adventures of the Masked Woman. The stories were enjoyable. The reason for 4 stars is the stories seem to be incomplete. They are not even completed in the follow up stories in the sets of 3. Paul does a great job with the Steam Punk settings and devices, but needs some work on endings or let us know that this is a lead in to a longer book. Keep going Paul U have the right direction.
