I love the way Francine Rivers writes and in this compilation of her books on the women of the Bible...she has out done herself. I purchased this book at the beginning of the summer and luxuriously read through the stories and worked through the bible study that followed. I was surprised by what I learned and discovered about myself through these stories as I thought I would be the women...but in many cases, I found I was the male character...not the woman. I was definitely Jacob and not Tamar in the first book...It was an awakening! In each novella, you will discover the wisdom and strength of those who came before us...stories of hope, faith, love, unlimited grace and obedience. You will not be disappointed! A great book for Christian Women Book Clubs, Bible Study or just sharing amongst friends. I thoroughly enjoyed every word!!!

This is my first book by this author and to say that I enjoyed it is an understatement. I felt like I was there and even though I knew how each story was going to end I still enjoyed the stories. Please read you will not be disappointed.

I was brought up hearing bible stories, but they never seemed to apply to me. After reading "a Lineage of Grace" I was moved to begin reading my bible. As I come along the stories I read in the bible that were highlighted in the book, their stories seem alive to me. I feel like I know them, I know their history. I have a deeper understanding of God's grace and a renewed realtionship with GOD. I have been blessed by Francine Rivers.

I very much enjoyed this book as I have River's other books I have read. I love how she drew parallels between the women and led up chronilogically to Christ's birth. She gave me a new perspective of women that I had a mostly negative view of like Rahab. I also love how she filled the gaps from the biblical stories without taking too many liberties and stretching the story too far. From what I know about the biblical perspective, she used information about the culture of the time. I rate this book as 4 stars because in my opinion, the Mark of the Lion series deserves 5 stars.

I really liked the way Rivers takes the Lineage of Jesus from his maternal ancestors starting with Tamar and through Mary. The stories based on biblical scripture gives a different perspective of their every day lives. A definate read!!

Easy to read format with questions at the end of each section. Puts you in the place of the heroine so you understand what restrictions women faced during the time. Good choice for an in-between Bible study.

She taked the little bits of information she has of these charaters and turns it into detailed, juicy stories. She sees from every persons own perspective. Amazing!

I loved how the author made each of the biblical characters seem human so that I could relate to them and their circumstances.

I really enjoyed Tamar and Rahab's stories (maybe because I was less familiar with them) but the rest was just "okay" to me.

"And I pray that as you read the Bible, you will become aware of the continuity, the consistency, and the confirmation of God's plan for the ages--a plan that includes you." -Francine Rivers, A Lineage of Grace Francine Rivers has done it again. I came across this series of five books on Goodreads and immediately became interested. I read it as different stories within one book, however, you can read each story as a separate novella if you would like. It was gripping and interesting that I wanted to read them back to back in one book rather than continually going back to purchase each individual novella. I am going to post the five stories separately. Each novella chronicles an account of five women in the Bible and their struggles they face. Rivers retells history beautifully that you truly remember these women as real people with tangible problems. Although these women lived in a time we can't begin to understand their circumstances, their legacies are told in such a way that you begin to understand who they are and why they are important. The figures are ordinary, but are paramount to the lineage of Jesus Christ. Yes, they are all ascendants of Jesus, hence the term "lineage" in the title. Beginning with Tamar and ending with Mary, mother of Jesus.

I am so eager to review this book that I have now decided is the best book I've ever read!  I've been an avid reader my whole 49-year-life but do not normally read Christian fiction.  I picked up this book two weeks ago at a Virginia Beach Barnes and Noble on a table entitled "Books Everyone Should Read."  I will forever be grateful to whomever selected it and brought it to my attention.  I had certainly heard good things about Francine Rivers' books through the years but had never considered reading them.  Now I can't wait to read everything she's written.  The stories of Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba and Mary are now etched in my heart and mind in a way I will never forget.  There are so many amazing lessons and sobering truths about these women and the huge challenges they faced in their lives.  Their cultural norms were quiet different than what most of us Western women face.  As I read I often found myself praying and thanking God for the incredible freedom and dignity He gave to women through His son, Jesus.  As I was totally intrigued and entertained by her stories, I would find myself wondering if she had deviated somewhat from the Biblical account.  And yet each time I opened Scripture and read about these women, I was stunned to see how closely she followed the Word and how much I had not noticed in the past.  I have not used the study guide and group discussion section yet but am considering hosting a book club on this book soon.  I can't help but  talk about it with my kids, husband, and anyone else who will listen!  Last, I want to encourage anyone who is interested in this book to give it a try.  It is so exquisitely written, accurately researched, and true to the stories' Biblical origins that even those who don't want to read something "religious" will find themselves drawn in and captivated by real human drama as it was written by our Maker Himself.
