Overview

Englishman Lake Benson loaned his life savings to his dippy sister so that she could buy a shop. It was a big mistake. His sister has been steadily flushing his money down the drain - and now he wants it back. Years in the special forces taught Lake that if you want a job done, do it yourself. So he steps in to make the shop profitable, sell it and get his money back.

The only problem is, the business is an underwear shop. And all Lake knows about underwear can be summed up in how fast he can unsnap a bra. To make matters worse, the tiny highland town already has a lingerie shop. A successful one, run by an ex-lingerie model. A very gorgeous ex-lingerie model, who's distracting him from his mission more than he'd like to admit. If Lake wants to get his savings back, and get out of Scotland, he only has one option - wipe out the competition.

Kirsty Campbell has spent years rebuilding her life after she woke up in hospital in Spain to find her body scarred, and her ex-fiance had run off with all her money. The last thing she needs is a cocky, English soldier-boy trying to ruin what little she has left. Her home town is only too happy to help her fight the latest English invasion, although Lake is beginning to sway them with his sex appeal and cut price knickers. With the help of her mother, and the retired ladies of Knit or Die, Kirsty sets about making sure that her shop is the last one standing in Invertary.

It's Scotland versus England as you've never seen it before. It's lingerie war.

It's been awhile since I have truly enjoyed a free read and this book did not disappoint. This book is perfect!! It was so well written that I felt like I was a part of the little Scottish town. Every character is absolutely wonderful, they make me wish that I have people in my life just like them. It was also absolutely hilarious and I couldn't put it down. I do wish the sex scenes weren't glossed over or at least the first time Kirsty and Lake got together, I felt that moment was pivotal to their relationship and I wanted to feel that deeper connection, but for me it honestly didn't take anything away from the book. This book was a longer read, around 260 pages on my Nook. Definitely will read more from this author and the next in the series!

This book is funny and just a great read. The characters are so defined you just can't wait for the next. There is sex but it is tastefull. It is a full length novel and can stand alone. One of the best books I've read.

I've always been fascinated by the Scottish-English struggles in history.  So when I saw this book was a book with comedy and romance set amid tension between a Scot and Englishman, I knew I had to read it.  Thankfully my gamble regarding this book paid off; it was a great read. I think my favorite part of the book were the scenes with Lake and Kirsty.  There were some that caused me to laugh hard and others that made my chest squeeze with emotion.  I even enjoyed when they were toe to toe with each other and neither was backing down.  Lake may have come across as cocky, but I could overlook that for the way he brought Kirsty back to life by giving her something to fight for. The other part of the book I loved was the small town shenanigans.  Some of those situations were almost unreal and unbelievable, but they rang true for the setting.  After all in small towns, everyone knows everyone and their business.  The supporting cast for this book was so large, because of all the townspeople.  I loved seeing how everyone picked sides and got involved in the lingerie battles.   Janet Elizabeth Henderson has written a fantastic story.  It's witty, uplifting, emotional, and funny.  You won't be able to put it down and will enjoy the various skirmishes between the shop owners to stay on top and stay in business.  I can't wait to read book 2 in this series!

I thoroughly enjoyed this story, my first time reading this author's work. Kirsty has dealt with a lot the past few years, and although she didn't think she was strong enough to fight, when given the right catalyst she figured out she was stronger than she believed herself to be. That catalyst being Lake, who invested his savings into a rival lingerie shop for his sister Rainne. Lake arrives in Invertary intent on finding out why the shop isn't providing any returns on investment (he's trying to buy into a international security firm), and discovers there's already a lingerie shop directly across the street. Hilarity ensues when the two owners go head-to-head in a war to see which shop will come out on top; throw in Betty McCloud (the 200 year-old underwear mascot) and romance and you've got yourself a cute, fun read. At first I thought it odd that Kirsty was naive in some aspects, especially considering her former modeling career, but then I figured she might not be that worldly if she was raised in a small town such as Invertary. Lake may come across as a know-it-all, but as former special forces I guess he's allowed to have that personality (I've worked with actual special forces and they're mostly like that IRL lol). I'm eagerly looking forward to the next book in the series.

It's war like you've never seen before! What happens when you put a determined Englishman head to head with an equally feisty Scot? Fantastic chemistry, that's what! Admission: I love reading about love-hate relationships bordering between insane hate and undeniable chemistry, and in Lingerie Wars, that's exactly what I got and then some! Story-wise, it's definitely unique. I mean, come on, it's war between two lingerie shops. It couldn't get any more sexier than that! To be honest, Lingerie Wars exceeded my expectations. Well, I was mostly looking forward to reading yet another contemporary romance, and it was that, but it also gave me more. More than the romance aspect and the adorable characters, Lingerie Wars is also about second chances, conquering your fears and making a choice between what you planned for all along and that precious something you've found. It's about braving the world out of your comfort zone and making something possible despite the odds. These are universal lessons packed in an engrossing and entertaining book, and with sizzling chemistry and romance between the two lead characters to boot! When I read about Kirsty's background story, I couldn't help but feel sympathy for her. She was on the brink of success and the world was at her feet. I could only imagine the pain she experienced when her fiance dumped her, and with her body -- her biggest asset -- scarred. For both career and love to have suddenly abandoned her, no wonder she chose to stay low and hide rather than get back on the pedestal. I'm glad she got a kick in the arse when she met Lake Benson. He was exactly the type of motivation she needed to get back on her feet and fight back with all she had. As for Lake, I find him too aggressive for his own good. He barrels through anyone and anything in his path when he's determined to accomplish something. And when he met Kirsty, it would be safe to say that he's finally met his match. Also, while I understand that he's only looking out for his sister, the way he speaks to her and the way he treats her strikes a wrong chord with me. I understand his motivation, but I didn't like his execution. As for the other characters in the story, they're all adorable! I love Kirsty's overprotective mom and her minions who become ninjas in the night just to defend Kirsty's honor! They're well-meaning but hilarious! My most favorite part of the story was when Lake put on his best show ever, only to be upstaged by Kirsty when she decided to use her best asset once again, and put him in his place. My second favorite scene? When Lake kicked the sorry ass of Kirsty's good-for-nothing ex. That gave me vindication. And finally, just like all other great stories, this one gave me a happy ending.
