The Barnes & Noble Review
The beauty of Linux: You can run it any way you want. Install a state-of-the-art distribution like Fedora 4 and experiment with software that programmers are investing zillions of hours to create. Or resurrect an ancient PC and run some tiny distribution that’s perfectly productive. Or run Linux from CD, without touching your Windows computer. If you love that flexibility, this book comes with -- and, more remarkably, covers -- 12 different distributions.

You’l find full chapters on Fedora Core and Red Hat, Debian, SUSE, KNOPPIX, Yellow Dog, Gentoo, Slackware, Linspire, even Ubuntu. Whatever distro you choose, Chris Negus tells you all you need to know: about command lines and GUIs, administration, Internet connections, networking, security, music, video, office software, email, browsers, IM, even BitTorrent. From LAMP servers to gaming to programming, it’s in here... and the DVD and CD contain a veritable plethora of Linuxes. Bill Camarda, from the February 2006 Read Only
