Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Carlee Hallman
Bible stories for each day of the year, from Genesis through Revelation, are told with Biblical citation and with a short prayer that puts the story in perspective. After telling that Moses killed the Egyptian and then fled (Exodus 2) the prayer says: "Dear God, Help me to work for justice—and also for peace." The prayer at the end of the David and Bathsheba affair (2 Samuel 11-12), says, "Dear God, If I do something wrong, help me to confess to it and be sorry." Psalm 51 follows. Many stories, such the account of Jesus' passion, are told in segments over several days. Interpretive details add to the stories. For example, "When Jesus enters the home of Simon Peter, Simon says, "Excuse the mess'My mother-in-law is sick and we've got behind with the chores.'" The pages have colorful borders and illustrations with facial expressions showing emotion. The table of contents gives a monthly summary. The stories are listed at the end according to church seasons, special occasions such as baptism or funerals, special themes such as justice, and values such as sharing. This book is perfect for parents to share with children at bedtime. Adults may want to look up the Bible passages and check out the amazing details and connections that are highlighted in this edition. Children will enjoy reading the straightforward stories for themselves. Reviewer: Carlee Hallman
