Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Carrie Hane Hung
The "African Animals" series includes a book about the king of the beasts, the lion. This book begins with an introduction to where the lion prides live in Africa; maps of the world and Africa are provided. In each layout, there are brief descriptions and close-up, color photographs that show the magnificent features of these large cats in their grassy habitats. Learn about the lions' characteristics that help them to survive. For instance, in the savanna, lions' tawny fur blends with the tall grass that hides them as they stalk their prey. Although this animal appears to be mighty, it must also protect itself from predators and defend its territory. The table of contents of this book follows the same format as the other books in the series. There is a glossary and an index. For those readers seeking more information about lions, additional book titles and Internet sites (via FactHound) are included. Reviewer: Carrie Hane Hung
