Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Lisa Colozza Cocca
The cover of this book shouts, "Open me!" Like the other books in this nonfiction series, "Big Cats," it is a large, full-color, close-up photograph. Once inside, the reader is treated to page after page of inviting photographs. Broken into five chapters, the text covers the physical characteristics, hunting habits, sight and hearing, family dynamics, and conservation of lions. Captions and sidebars add a bit of spark to the text. The amount of information provided is a good fit for the age group. It goes beyond the basics, but is not overwhelming. A glossary is provided, but the author does a fine job of incorporating the meanings of the challenging words within the text itself. Other features include a table of contents, an index, and a list of books and a link to the Fact Hound website where readers can find more information on lions. The book is a solid addition to any animal book collection. Reviewer: Lisa Colozza Cocca
