Praise for Lisa Loeb's Songs for Movin' and Shakin':

"[D]esigned for maximum movement and rhythm . . . The CD is essential . . . and it is definitely the highlight of this collaboration. With vocals by Lisa Loeb, Dan Petty, Michelle Lewis, and the Campers, joining acoustic guitar, bass, drums, piano or keyboard, the recording presents a varied collection of songs to encourage participation from a rhythmic stomp ('Everybody Wake Up') to a lyric sun salutation with yoga movement ('Hello Today') . . . guaranteed to leave a smile on the face of listeners.” —School Library Journal

"The energy is practically radiating off the pages, with retro-cool illustrations that fill the page, a fun design, and a mixture of classic songs and Loeb's own creations . . . if adults master the moves (easy to do) and pop in the CD, you'll have a dance party in no time.” —Booklist

School Library Journal
K-Gr 2—True to its title, this brief book and CD introduce 10 interactive songs, some Loeb originals, all designed for maximum movement and rhythm. Popular folk or camp tunes include "Miss Mary Mack," "Peanut Butter and Jelly," "Do Your Ears Hang Low?" and "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes." Each spread provides the lyrics and cartoon images, giving instruction for movement. Occasional boxed instructions give additional information about the song or performance tips. While adults can use the book as a source for the lyrics, the lack of contrast between background and fonts, and cluttered images or decoration create pages that are challenging to read. The CD is essential to the book, as no musical notation is included, and it is definitely the highlight of this collaboration. With vocals by Lisa Loeb, Dan Petty, Michelle Lewis, and the Campers, joining acoustic guitar, bass, drums, piano or keyboard, the recording presents a varied collection of songs to encourage participation from a rhythmic stomp ("Everybody Wake Up") to a lyric sun salutation with yoga movement ("Hello Today"). A general purchase with a sprinkling of humor that's guaranteed to leave a smile on the face of listeners.—Mary Elam, Learning Media Services, Plano ISD, TX

This book and CD have plenty of "toe-tapping tunes", some I was familiar with and some were new to me. All of them get you moving! The book has the lyrics and whimsical, colorful illustrations to go with each song. They can be enjoyed together or apart. My five year-old granddaughter recognized some songs from preschool and sang along. My one year-old grandson loved to dance to all of them and their little cousins joined in too! This is enjoyable for all ages and will get everyone moving! We look forward to reading and dancing to these for years to come. We'll also be looking for more from this artist. Join the party and get this set for your family!

This is the 2nd book we have bought of Lisa's (with CD) & it is worth every penny - As a father of 3 kids - the entertainment factor is minimal out there - except when it comes to the musical stylings of Lisa Loeb. Last night I read the book to my daughter and she asked if we could play the CD this morning on the way to school. All the songs were very easy for them to pick up and start singing along in the "man van" - from old favorites like "Do Your Ears Hang Low" to "Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes" to NEW favorites like Peanut Butter & Jelly (which has the kids pretending to pick the peanuts, smash them and spreading them.) The creativity she provides via lyrics and songs for normal day to day activities really is inspirational, especially to my daughters, and how she is able to rattle off all the necessary things when you are "Going Away" - is mind boggling. Lastly, I think that I will replace my old and tired A.M. "Reveille" bugle call with a more updated version now blasting through my MP3 player called  "Everybody Wake Up"  - I'll be sure to provide an update later to see how that goes. Cheers!

Fell in love with Lisa's voice with her song, Stay... So, when I was given a chance to review her book/cd combo... I was excited and now I know that my son is going to continue in loving her too!  He was up on his feet dancing and especially loved the Monster Stomp... For me, a couple songs were a trip down memory lane and I absolutely had a blast singing and dancing with him!    If you are looking for a great time, I highly recommend you grab this now... Summer fun is just around the corner!!!!
