Chapter One

God Makes Wonderful Things GENESIS 1:1–2:3

What was the world like before God started making things? There was nothing! Before God created things there was no earth. There was no sky. There were no oceans. There were no plants, no animals, and no people. There was nothing.

Then God said, "Let there be light," and creation began!

On Day One of creation, God made light and dark. He called them day and night. God liked what he made.

The next day, Day Two, God made the sky. He liked what he made. On Day Three, God made the land and the seas. He made all the plants that grow on the land. God liked everything he made.

God made the sun and moon and stars on Day Four. He liked what he made then, too. On Day Five, God filled the seas with all kinds of fish. He made birds to fly through the sky. God liked all he made.

Day Six was the day he made all the animals that live on the land. He also made his greatest creation on Day Six. He made the very first people! God liked everything he made. He liked it all! So, on Day Seven, God rested.

I learned that ...

God made all the colors! He used blue for the sky; green for grass; orange, pink, and blue for sunsets; and red, purple, and yellow for flowers. Sometimes God mixes colors to make new ones. Blue and yellow go together to make green. Red and yellow mixed together make orange. God made colors, colors everywhere!

I can ... Draw a picture, but choose strange colors for things. Use your imagination. How about pink grass and a green sky? What are your favorite colors?

Dear God,

Thank you for all the wonderful things you made! You thought of exciting and funny and pretty and really special things to make. Thank you most of all for making me! Amen

The heavens are yours, and the earth is yours; everything in the world is yours—you created it all. PSALM 89:11

I love the padded cover, the colors, the illustrations are fun too. This is all around a great little Bible storybook with activities and interaction already planned in including a prayer to possibly memorize. We’re not much for TV so I came into this Bible Storybook not having seen the Little Angels TV show, but after spending time with this darling cast of Angels on paper I’m sure the show would be darling as well. It starts with a character glossary to introduce the angels and then there are 100 favorite chosen stories both from the Old and New Testaments. Each story has a scripture reference, retelling, a kid friendly application, an activity suggestion, prayer and a further memory verse scripture to read and possibly memorize. At the end after all the Bible stories are some fun things including Special Bible Verses to Remember, The 10 Commandments, Facts about Angels, Miracles of Jesus and author biographies. The illustrations are very bright and cartoon-like, but tons of fun. I am very impressed with this little storybook especially in the “I just learned…” applications. Even my preschooler enjoys reading in this one and I truly can see her learning. To have a Bible storybook to teach and challenge my daughter as she grows in her knowledge of scripture and hopefully faith is the goal and definitely accomplished here. I received this product free for the purpose of reviewing it. I received no other compensation for this review. The opinions expressed in this review are my personal, honest opinions. Bible storybooks are everywhere nowadays, and I’ve had quite a few around here. But this one will be read often! We love the illustrations, the summaries of the Bible stories, the applications, and the simple and quick activities that accompany each lesson/story. I’ve been reading the stories of the New Testament since we’re in that time period in our history study right now. The kids I’ve been reading to are 4, 5, and 7, and they love it! They beg me to read more and more each time. One thing I enjoy is doing the activity with each lesson. I gave each of the kids a small notebook where they put their “work”. The storybook is aimed for preschool age, so they do things like write the work “faith”, count to 12 (for the 12 baskets of food), draw a picture of a fish, pretend to be a colt, and make a cross with two wooden sticks. (I received a copy of this book from the publishers. All thoughts and opinions are my own.)
