Overview

Clumsy ballerina Rosie excels when she's called on to replace a lead dancer in The Nutcracker Suite. The book contains two mounted minibooks plus 7 envelopes with letters and a charm bracelet!

Rosie loves to dance, but she's so clumsy! After auditioning for The Nutcracker Suite, Rosie gets the role of a mouse while Stacey wins the part of Clara. Rosie writes to The Sugar Plum Fairy for advice on how to be a better dancer, and is told to have confidence and believe in herself. When Stacey has to drop out of the performance, Rosie's teacher encourages Rosie, who's been practicing very hard, to replace Stacey--to great acclaim! This enchanting novelty book, with a padded cover, contains 2 mounted minibooks, 6 mounted envelopes with letterrs inside, plus a ballet slipper charm bracelet!

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Traci Avalos
Auditions are held for Rosie's school's performance of The Nutcracker, and she gets a very small part, although she dreams about dancing the lead part of Clara. Rosie is disappointed but continues to work hard at her part, and she even learns other parts too. When the day of the performance comes around, and the girl playing the part of Clara is injured, Rosie gets the chance to dance the part she dreamed about. This is an excellent book, filled with soft, elegant pictures filled with detail. One of the best parts of the book is that it includes letters, programs, and notes of encouragement from the Sugar Plum Fairy, to whom Rosie writes to share her troubles. These are included in their own envelope on every page, with a very special gift at the end! Little girls will be enchanted with this story, even if they don't dream of becoming dancers themselves. It would be a good book to teach determination, practice ethics, how to deal with bullying, and the story of The Nutcracker (a mini book is included!).
