Little Bear's Egg (Maurice Sendak's Little Bear Series)by Else Holmelund Minarik, David T. Wenzel
Little Bear is picking blueberries with his friends Hen and Duck when they find an egg that has fallen out of its nest. How will they keep the egg nice and warm?
Children's LiteratureLittle Bear and his friends Hen and Duck head out to pick some blueberries. Along the way, they find a little blue egg. Being a kind and thoughtful Little Bear, he gathers some soft moss and grass and lines the basket to keep the egg safe and warm. But to keep it really warm, he knows that the parents or another bird should sit on the egg. When his friends refuse, Little Bear tries to help out, but as luck would have it, the egg starts to hatch and the parents, a pair of sparrows arrive on the scene and are delighted that they have found their lost egg. The pictures are delightful watercolors with plenty for young kids to enjoy. It is a sturdy board book with a positive message about caring and doing the right thing to help. Part of "Maurice Sendak's Little Bear" series. 2003, HarperFestival/HarperCollins,
