Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
What a celebration of Walt Disney's 100th birthday. If you grew up watching Walt Disney Presents on Sunday nights, you will love this reminiscence of how the monolith that is Disney all got started. There are 352 pages of blurbs from the beginnings to the present in this interesting format, which measures about 5 x 6 inches. There is some text, lots of photos and drawings, and lists of strange things, like how many cups of coffee are served on the cruise ship Disney Magic or how to say Mickey Mouse in 19 languages. There is no doubt that Walt was a unique and interesting person who has influenced all of us in some way, if you stop and think about it. Sure, the modern day Disney Corp. is a master at promotion, but readers of all ages will enjoy this trip down memory lane. Beautifully conceived, it's an encyclopedia of Disney, and Walt would be proud. 2001, Disney Enterprises, $24.95. Ages 3 up. Reviewer: Meredith Kiger AGES: 3 4 5 6 7 8

Gr 7-Up This thick volume with a small trim size is filled with full-color archival art. What it amounts to is an advertisement for, or perhaps a love letter to, the Disney Company. There are many interesting tidbits about obscure employees who made a contribution to films and theme parks. There is a particular emphasis on women who contributed to the organization's legacy, including Retta Scott, its first female animator. But for every interesting piece of trivia there is also a silly bit of nonsense. And while the table of contents breaks down the material by topic, for example, "Magic Kingdoms," the book is not organized accordingly; readers must return to the table of contents to look up each page separately if they want to find all of the items under a particular heading. Not a necessary purchase. -Tim Wadham, Maricopa County Library District, Phoenix, AZ Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information.

What a great exciting book about Disney! There is so much information in it that I have yet to absorb every little piece of it in my brain! It has everything you would want or need to know about the cast and crew, the silver screen, television, magic kingdom information (a lot!), the Disney characters, music and stories and histories! There are so many colorful pictures in this book also. I think almost every page has beautiful quality pictures on it! I was not disappointed in the value information of this book. I was truly amazed by all of the things they covered and put into such a convenient-sized, 352 page book! It is simply wonderful and a great book to add to any and all collections!!
