Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Little Bo Peep gazes out her window and notices that her sheep are missing. She wonders where they could be as well as where her friend, Little Boy Blue, who was supposed to be watching them, has gone. She sees prints in the snow so she follows them and along the way she meets Mary. They both decide to see if they can find the sheep and Mary's little lamb. They visit a school as well as the house that Jack built, but no luck! Suddenly Little Bo Peep hears a noise. It was Tom, the piper's son, snipping the woolly coats off the sheep with a pair of scissors. Finally, Little Boy Blue comes to the rescue. Tom who was thwarted at his attempt to get three bags of wool ends up grabbing a pig and off he runs. The closing page contains notes for adults as well as suggestions for activities before and after reading the book. "Tadpole Nursery Crimes" are designed for transitional and early readers. They are dependent on the readers knowing the original rhyme so they can appreciate the unique twist on traditional tales. This is a Guided Reading Level F text. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
