Overview

The Little Book that helps investors avoid big losses in an economic downturn

In the wake of falling stock and real estate prices, the American economy is poised for a decade-long bear market, so says Peter Schiff. After he accurately predicted the current market turmoil, savvy investors should pay attention--and start protecting their assets now, before the markets take their toll. The Little Book of Bull Moves in Bear Markets shows investors how to stay safe and stay liquid during economic downturns.

Using economic history as a guide, Schiff looks at the bear markets that followed the bull markets of the 1920s and 1960s to predict what the American economy will look like after it corrects for the tech and real estate bubbles of the 1990s and early 2000s. Combining financial, economic, and political perspectives, Schiff looks at what worked in those earlier bear markets and predicts what strategies are most likely to work over the next ten years. In the end, Schiff argues that the next decade will most closely resemble the 1970s, complete with inflation, rising interest rates, and soaring commodity prices. This reversal of trends will make past investment strategies obsolete and pose a challenge for investors trying to build and protect their wealth. Smart investing will always pay off; the key lies in using the best strategies for the market at hand. For investors who see the writing on the wall but don't know what to do about it, The Little Book of Bull Moves in Bear Markets offers a timely, critical answer.

Peter D. Schiff (Darien, CT) is President of Euro Pacific Capital, Inc., and one of the few non-biased investment advisors to have predicted the current bear market and positioned his clients accordingly. He appears twice a week on the FOX Business News network and has been quoted in such publications as the Wall Street Journal, Barron's, the Financial Times, and the New York Times. He is also the author of Crash Proof (978-0-470-04360-8), from Wiley.

What to do in this crazy market?

The author of this book, Peter D. Schiff, is the head of a brokerage firm that called this bear market and advised people to adjust their assets accordingly while there was still time to do so. He's also predicting that this market will last for a decade. I'm not certain about that, but I did appreciate the insight he provides from studying bear markets in the 30s and 70s to see how the US economy might adjust. His strategies come from what constituted successful moves in those markets. His main prediction is the next decade will mirror the 1970s, complete with high inflation and interest rates, as well as an increase in commodity prices. Even if you don't agree with all of the advice, it's a great time to read this book.

Another book I've really enjoyed recently during the topsy turvy market is The Emotional Intelligence Quick Book. Not an investment book, obviously, just a book to keep my sanity!

    Wake UP and PAY ATTENTION

This is a good read and is a day by day increasingly probable view into the near future.

Really, read this book, consider the source and come to your own conclusions.

The book is well written, well organised and at the same time....an advertisement.

It is worth reading. It could save you a lot of money and maybe, save your life.

Good diagnosis of the illness, but is it the right prescription?

The economic observations about the soundness of American finances are true enough, and these are set nicely in historical context at the beginning of the book. This book provides a very interesting read.

In a nutshell: This book describes the 'problem' well enough. But does Schiff have the 'solution'? Who knows? Good diagnosis of the illness, but is it the right prescription?

I have mixed feelings about these 'little books' in general. They're nicely presented, and big sellers, but there is now one for almost every conceivable investment strategy. That's fine: there are various strategies, and each one needs documenting. But each book is written by an 'expert' who is pretty much saying "This is the strategy that really works". Well, they can't all work, can they? Maybe they can, in the sense that every strategy is likely to work at some time. Every dog has its day.

    Contrarian investment guide

Author Peter D. Schiff explains how he positioned his clients when he saw the current bear market coming, and warns you about what he sees as the imminent collapse of the U.S. dollar and the U.S. economy. He recommends that readers get their money out of the U.S. market, invest abroad, and even consider emigrating altogether and opening a business in a BRIC country (Brazil, Russia, India and China). Schiff elaborates on the risk of living in an American city ¿with an inner-city population.¿ This short book full of breathlessly long sentences explains Schiff¿s end-of-life-as-we-know-it investment philosophy, including why he thinks that playing the commodities markets by investing in futures is safer and sounder than trusting the U.S. government and financial structure. getAbstract recommends his book to readers who want to hear every point of view about the U.S. economy, including the very worst-case scenario. And even if the worst is occurring, says Schiff, you still have some investment options.

This book is a must read for any serious investor.

Peter Schiff is one of the few people who predicted the 2008 stock market crash. Hence, he has the credibility and knowledge to advise how to invest going forward. Mr. Schiff has extensive expertise in the underpinnings of the U.S. and global economies. He explains how inflation will rise, the dollar will fall, the value of precious metals will go up, and what the real GDP and unemployment rates are versus what the government reports. He puts it all together in clear understandable terms. Peter also gives recommendations of what investments to purchase for best growth in the coming decade. Overall a great, informative, easy to read book!

    Comprehensive and Eye Opening

Looking at the publish date, you might think this little book destroyed the market. However, Schiff foresaw the collapse long before it happened.

The book is an excellent lesson and guide for how to navagate the turmoil. My only problem was the repeated marketing of his firm in the text. Regardless, it's a must read for insight into what might happen in the next 8-10 years.
