Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Mary Hynes-Berry
Perhaps this simple story of a sleepover at Grandma and Grandpa's farm, complete with picking blueberries, pie making, and a county fair benefits from its dedication to Mayer's first granddaughter. In any case, even though Mercer Mayer has been doing Little Critter stories for decades, he somehow manages to keep a certain amount of freshness that other syndicated characters like Arthur have lost. The secret might also be that Mayer's drawings are always full of rich detail and such extraneous little critters to be found on every page. Children are also likely to respond to the way Little Critter's family always recognizes the way a child can be an important part of adult activities While Little Critter has an endearing penchant for making a mess, the story provides an accurate step-by-step guide to making blueberry pie that could easily turn into a classroom or home activity—complete with the Grandma's special ingredient of "lots of love."
