My companion is a 9 month old, 5 lb, Pomeranian. She and I both agree that this book has been a great help in our relationship. I own a number of "small dog" books but this is the first one that I can truly say helped with my understanding a small dog's perspective, which in turn has had huge payoffs in our work together. The training tips and techniques are well explained and really work. I recently hired a private dog trainer to visit us for more advanced training and she commended us on our training up to this point. It was all due to the good writing of this book. My wish is to have a dog who is happy, healthy, and a well trained "good citizen" and this book has helped both of us move closer to this goal!

I've only had labs in the past, so I was completely unprepared when I rescued a 5-lb Yorkie-Poo. I figured dog training is dog training, but boy was I wrong! I was at my wits-end with the endless barking. I tried everything in every book, web-site, and web-forum but nothing worked. Then I found this book! Within 24 hours, she was no longer barking at every person or car leaving the apartment parking lot as they left in the morning. If you have a small yapper get this book and get it FAST!

This book gives a good overview of life with a little dog but was only moderately helpful to me. My biggest "problem" with my Papihuahua (papillon-chihuahua) pup is that she LOVES people, especially children. My dog barks in excitement when she sees anyone, but races towards children and jumps up to their faces to give them kisses. Not all children appreciate this attention. I want to tone it down. I hoped this book would provide some solutions, but the author's dogs seem to be timid and aggressive, not overly enthusiastic.

It gives good understanding of a small dog personality and what problems arise due to its size and temperament. Needed to take summary notes to be able to apply and use during the training of our dog. Enjoyed all the examples given of other dogs and owners.

As a new owner of a 2 pound Maltese puppy, I found this book to be very informative. We have raised several dogs in the past but none were this little. There is a difference and this book helped us to understand that. I think anyone who is new to raising a little dog could benefit from reading this book.

Deborah has made her training technique's very easy to understand and follow. Even though I am a certified dog trainer, I love the ease she gives for problem solving and practical training. I have small dogs's and I find her experience whit them very helpful and informative.

While reading this book, I was relieved to see someone took the time and effort to write down their experiences of raising a Toy Breed dog. Since they are much more delicate than their larger cousins, a different approach is needed when training and disciplining them. I now know what to expect and what to try when I bring home my new little companion!

This book is perfect for small dog owners who want great advice on how to train and relate to their tiny companion. Not only are there step-by-step instructions for various commands, but the author also tells several side stories, from her own experiences, that are relevant to the use of her methods. Every small dog owner should have this book handy!
