Overview

One look and I became his.

One look and I didn’t even think to run.

Just one look, and Juan Florez had found his golden ticket.

On the wrong side of town in a drug fueled heartland, I went in search of my younger brother, Ethan.

What I would find was something belonging to nightmares.

What I would lose would unknowingly become my fight for survival.

An escape from the clutches of evil seemed almost an impossible task. Warring with Mexico’s leading cartel would only see me closer to my grave. Or worse, used as a bargaining chip to seal a sickening deal my brother had unwillingly played a part in.

But then there was one man who ruled over me. A man who promised to destroy my world at every turn. Juan Florez. Taking on the notorious cartel son was a battle I was bound to lose.

I really enjoyed this suspenseful book. Its heart breaking yet hopeful story keeps you turning the pages. There are moments in the book that were cringe worthy and made my heart sad but also made the romantic side of me happy. Overall 4 out 5 stars for me.

Little Doll was so good!!! Laila was very brave and strong with what she had been through. Was happy Aiden was on her side but I hope they some how they end up together.

Melissa did a great job in crafting characters you hate to love and love to hate. Be careful though...Melissa keeps you guessing as to which ones are the good guys and which ones are the bad guys. There are graphic scenes, twisted people, a strong heroine, and just plain bad men...it all adds up to a great read! Can't wait to dive into book 2!

I started off with mixed feelings on this book. The beginning seemed to drag on just a smidge for me. I kept waiting for that 'Oh sh*t' moment. It took a while to get there but once it did, I was sitting on the edge of my seat anticipating the turn of each page. Yes, this is a dark read. Yes, there are some scenes that are not for everyone. Yes, there is a cliffhanger. So now we have that out of the way. For an author's first book, this was pretty good. I love that this was told in dual POV. I always like to know both sides of the story and what both characters are feeling. So that was a huge plus for me.  I really liked Laila and Aiden's characters. Laila isn't the usual weak and needy heroine. She is feisty, mouthy and damn determined to not let her spirits break at the situations she finds herself in.  Aiden is dominate, yet caring and gentle. A man on a mission and will not be deterred from his plans. Whether you alter them or not, he moves forward. He's also very sexy and the pull between him and Laila is captivating. Another thing that I really enjoyed about Melissa's writing style is that she uses such great detail in telling the story. And she turned it down a notch at just the right moments. I enjoyed reading this, I recommend reading it and I can't wait to get my hands on book two and find out what unfolds next.
