Editorial Reviews
Children's Literature
Baseball and football seem to be the national sports for most Americans, and this little board book focuses on football. There are ten riddles to be solved and the answers are on the following page. It begins with the obvious—what is full of air and mostly brown but not round? A football! The riddles then move to players and their equipment—helmets, shoulder pads, jerseys, and a variety of other people and items associated with the game. The one who wears a zebra striped shirt and blows a whistle (referee), the ones on the field who wave pompons and help raise the fans enthusiasm (cheerleaders) and, of course, the team leader who takes the hike and makes a throw (the quarterback). An easy introduction and discussion starter about a game that many kids will see their parents watching or that they may play in school. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
