Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
Little Gorilla is happy because everybody loves him; not just his family, but green parrot, tall giraffe, red monkey, and other jungle dwellers too. One day, Little Gorilla starts to grow, until - Little Gorilla is BIG! And you know what? Everybody still loves him! Readers will enjoy this friendly and comforting bedtime read.
Children's Literature
Everyone loves the baby Gorilla, but as he grows up from a sweet little thing to a big hairy ape, he wonders if he will still be loved. Yes, of course he will--all his friends and family are there in a heartwarming story about the constancy of friendship and familial love. The colored pencil drawings wonderfully depict the emotions of all the animals and especially Gorilla. 2000, Clarion,
From the Publisher
"Warm and touching story."

Book Links, ALA

"Little Gorilla’s velvety-soft jungle world seems as comfortably secure as the story’s evocation of love and friendship. Each page radiates a quiet drama as one after another, the jungle inhabitants indulgently express their affection for the irresistible baby. . . . Preschoolers will take pleasure in joining the conversely shrinking animal menagerie in wishing the not-so-little Little Gorilla a happy birthday."

Booklist, ALA

"Short and sweet, a song of love which . . . is beguiling. Everybody loved Little Gorilla from the day he was born until one day ‘something happened . . . Little Gorilla began to grow and Grow and Grow . . .’ And he was big, and everybody came and sang and danced and wished him a happy birthday and still loved him. So the message to the audience is clear: love goes on. The drawings are simple, large-scale [and] they fit the text very comfortably."

    Good size but SMALL text

Text is pretty impossible for my husband to read. Pictures are ok. Last line of everyone still loving the gorilla is a bit weird. Like when you grow up people might not still love you? Whatever it is a kids book. My kid loves gorillas.

Little Gorilla is a wonderful book. A simple story that children can comprehend and enjoy. Also makes a great gift for a child's first birthday
