    Smart and not what you'd expect

    This is NOT a parenting book. This book is hilarious and Alex and Simon's voice is vivid throughout because they actually wrote this book together without the help of a ghostwriter.

    They added pictures to it as well!

    Waste of time.

    Every parent has funny stories regarding their children yet most of us dont feel self-rightous enough to write a "parenting" book. The fact that this couple finds time to work full time each in their own career (which from what I can gather has nothing to do with education, child psych, or related field) participate in a tv show, and apparently socialize extensively as documented from their need to keep their own identity (as they spoke of in the book)I find it amazing that these two were able to make any memories or stories with their children. Many of us know that parenting isnt a compartment that you can put your kids in and it feels as though this couple tries to do just that. There are other great books from parents who have actually made their kids a priority. This book feels contrived and self absorbed on the behalf of the parents. I dont watch their show although it seems like the other reviewers here do which may have clouded their judgement. Some of the other books below are much better choices. Save your money.

    A no holds barred look at parenting while maintaining your own sense of self

    An absolutely great book! As a teacher and stepparent to a great son, I really liked the true look at parenting children, warts and all. They have a down to earth approach and willingness to share the good, the bad and the hilarious that had me rolling. The boys obviously bring such joy to their lives and you can tell they truly enjoy the adventure that is parenting. That being said they give you the unvarnished truth of what it is to really raise children.

    Their setting is the city but their stories will reasonate with anyone who has parented. I love that they have added and incorporated the children into their lives rather than 'burbing out, the children will only benefit from it in the end. Alex and Simon have managed to keep their own identities while helping their children form their own. They manage to work, parent, have a social life and maintain their relationship as a couple. This book is a great study in how to try to balance everything while maintaining your sense of humor. I wish I had this book when I was a new wife and stepmom!

    Funny!

    Get this book! It is funny, engaging, and entertaining! Don't get caught up on the "real housewife" thing. Alex and Simon are great parents who are maintaining their own identity and loving their children.

    Love this Book!!

    I loved this book. It was very funny and informative at the same time. I am not a Mom, but I loved it just the same.
    I love Alex on RHWNYC, she is the only sane voice on the show, I love the panache of Simon, her husband. The book reflects both of them and was not ghostwritten, so it is very much Alex and Simon's story in their own words.
    The book is thoughtful, well written, and at times hilarious!

    A great baby shower gift, or dinner party gift for a new Mom and Dad.
    A fun read!

    Intelligent and normal

    Alex sounds intelligent and articulate, and I find that engaging. I don't get to read much for pleasure as a graduate student nor do I watch TV, unless I can't sleep due to research that is due. I happened to stumble upon the RHONY and since I am majoring in Psychotherapy I enjoyed analyzing these women. I hope that Kelly has a therapist on call.
    Alex seems genuine, intelligent and normal. Others should be happy to have her as their friend. The other two, the Jewish one and the one with the fake European dialect are delusional. You live in America, social class is determined by education; education transcends everything, even royalty, clearly the two of you didn't go beyond twelfth grade and it shows, even in the short time I watched.

    Alex I hope you do something bigger and better, you have potential; write or something academic.

    Tried to write at Amazon, but it did not work.

    Delighted, But Not Quite Surprised.

    I'm going to start my review by stating clearly that I am a fan of RHONY. However, my review is not based on that fact, and my purchase of the book was also not based on that fact. This being said, I purchased the book based on the blogs I had read by both Simon and Alex, hoping that the witty, irreverent way they had of looking at the show would carry over to this book, and I'm happy to say that was the case.
    Simon and Alex's unique way of looking at things has made for a very unique book. It's not a how to, but a how we do it. So many things will resonate with parents of young children, or grown children.
    From pregnancy (Please don't use a scalpel if it's not necessary, and by all means, ask for permission before doing so!), finding the right caregiver for your child, things you never thought you'd ever say in your entire life (Legos and hot pizza stones do NOT mix, and no I can't fix it), coping with an injured child (blindly panicking is not an option, quietly panicking is).
    While Simon is not Dr. Spock, and Alex is not Erma Bombeck, together they have written a truly enjoyable book that has a point of view without being "preachy". I've passed it on to my son who has children the same age as Francios and Johan.
    The message that I came away with was one I have always followed. It's fine to raise your children, but don't forget to enjoy them!

    Little Kids Big City a fun read

    As the parents/step parents of two grown and married men and a Nana and Grandpa to a beautiful little angel, we loved the book. No need to be a new parent or even live in a big city. Their stories brought back many memories of when our children were young. Started great dialog at our dinner table. My husband and I totally related to the "We were here first" section. Seems like no one ever says it, but it is VERY true and if parents haven't made time for themselves, take Simon and Alex' advice and do so. Don't want to give the book away, but highly recommend this as a must read for all married couples with or without children. A must read for anyone that thinks they will never find their soul mate.

    Unexpected

    I didn't think I would actually like this book. Shockingly I Loved it! I laughed at the witty comments and the funny stories. Take a chance and you won't regret reading this wonderful well written book too.

    Might be the worst book ever written

    If you read this as though it was written as a joke, you'll enjoy it. Sadly, it seems to have been written to be taken seriously. It's hard to believe that these two creepy fame whores who use their children to make money think they're good parents, but their book makes it clear they do. Don't waste your time or money on this.
