Lamb is one of several titles in the popular Look at Me series of children's animal board books that are being reset in a miniature size to fit tiny hands. Scaled down to approximately half the original's size, this book presents the same illustrations found in the original, with a slightly abridged story. Realistic illustrations and story offer a child-friendly naturalistic portrayal of a baby animal and its mother, and describes in simple language how the mother sheep keeps her baby lamb from getting into trouble. Toddlers will love the pictures, and will delight in having Mom or Dad read the story aloud.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Part of the Look at Me series, this tall-format board book is die-cut in the shape of a lamb. Inside, realistically rendered lambs mostly remain close to their mother ewes, but sometimes explore the peaceful farm: "They get to meet all the little animals and birds." The informational text often draws comparisons between young sheep and human children ("Just like little children, the little lambs like to play"), and a tender depiction of the lambs lovingly curled with their mothers ("It's time to sleep. Zzzz") could help make this simple story a lead-in to nap time. Ages 1–4. (Apr.)
Kirkus Reviews

Preachy and earnest, this didactic ode to mothers limps completely off the chosen path.

Baby lambs mature under the protective care of their mamas. Little animals find comfort in the "sweet sound of her voice" as they happily drink her milk. The pointed comparisons between young children and lambs are tiresome from the beginning. "Just like baby girls and boys, little lambs need to be kept safe." Occasional factual tidbits are clumsily inserted. Generalizations abound (the lambs "love to find new adventures"), without any action to spice up the saccharine message. A forced enthusiasm does nothing to communicate genuine excitement. "They are so happy to drink the milk, their tails wave high in the air!" There's no variation in the idyllic spring settings; cloyingly sweet, loving babes nuzzle and cuddle as birds and bunnies hover nearby.

Put this one out to pasture and don't look back. (Board book. 18 mos.-3)
