Simple, spare text and very charming illustrations make this a perfect introduction to the story of Christmas.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Little Lamb's Christmas by Josephine Page, illus. by David Milgrim, an oversize board book, describes a little lamb's journey to Bethlehem; Milgrim's cartoon-style illustrations depict the shepherds as friendly-looking children. Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
Children's Literature
The traditional Christmas story is told through the eyes of Little Lamb, mainly through illustrations and minimal text. Little Lamb is awakened one night in the pasture by a special angel who urges the shepherd and his flock to travel to the City of David. They do, of course, and Little Lamb is treated to a special greeting by the Baby Jesus. The Peanuts-like illustrations, done predominantly in blue, will make this hardback a favorite read of the preschool set. Young children seem to identify more with animals than adults, anyway. 2003, Scholastic, Ages 2 to 4.

PreS-This amply sized board book presents an extremely simplified retelling of the Nativity from Little Lamb's perspective. When the flock and the shepherds are awakened by an angel, they exclaim, "She was so beautiful!" The brief text is amplified by minimalist, soft, pastel cartoon illustrations in which figures and objects are outlined in black. The childlike simplicity of the drawings, which are reminiscent of those by Jack Kent, gives a light, friendly tone to this sweet introduction to the holiday.-S. P.
