Overview

In this riveting prequel novella to her novel Little Mercies, New York Times bestselling author Heather Gudenkauf explores how even the smallest lies can have far-reaching consequences.

When the body of a woman is discovered in a local park—with her bewildered four-year-old son sitting beside her—veteran social worker Ellen Moore is called in to assist in the police investigation. Positioned beneath a statue of Leto, the goddess of motherhood, the crime is weighted with meaning and, Ellen discovers, remarkably similar to one from a decade past.

Ellen's professional duty is to protect the child, but she's not equipped to contend with a killer. As she races to connect the dots, she knows her time is running out. And the stakes are high: if she fails, another mother is sure to make the ultimate sacrifice.

This book, I didn't want to like, because of the tragic nature of the story. However, the main character is so very likeable, I couldn't help feeling involved in the story, like I was really there. I would recommend this to all the mystery lovers out there. The ending really packs a punch and was totally unexpected! I hope the author does this series for a very long time. I really love the writing style, but more importantly, I want to know the main character more.

Good Story except there were only 47 pages. Product details says 400 pages? Not sure if I got the whole story or not on my Nook!

Heather Gudenkauf is one of my favorite authors. I try not to miss any books that she writes. Little Lies is another well-thought-out book which involves the reader.

The end seemed hurried, like the editors were pressing her. Also, the product details say the book is 400 pages, my version went to 47 pages, which is right for a novella but not a book. Go figure.

Eaay short read. Predictable, well written. Good character development in so few pages. Would like to read more from this author, but her e- books are expensive. Will be looking in used book stores for real book.
