Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
This Little Miss is no sweet thing, actually she was always horrid. She liked to play tricks and she never seemed to be afraid of anything. She tricked Dr. Foster and the Man in the Moon. She even told Mrs. Ladybug that her house was on fire and her children were all alone. How could all of these folks and others get even with this nasty little girl? Georgie Porgie tried kissing her, but that did not work. She chased away the cat that had scared the queen as well as the Old Woman who lived in a shoe. As a last resort they called upon Dr. Fell but he too failed to find a potion or expression that would scare the little Miss. Well, you guessed it once back on her tuffet, Miss Muffet finally got her scare. The closing page has notes for adults as well as suggestions for activities before and after reading the book. "Tadpole Nursery Crimes" are designed for transitional and early fluent readers. They are dependent on the readers knowing the original rhyme so they can appreciate the unique twist on traditional tales. This is a Guided Reading Level F text. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
