Meet the Author

Meg Favreau is a writer, comedian, food enthusiast, and one-time eating-contest winner living in Los Angeles. Her work has appeared on sites including the Huffington Post, McSweeney’s, and the Smart Set, and she serves as senior editor of the frugal-living and personal-finance site Wise Bread. Meg dedicates this book to her grandmother, whose pie-making skills remain unrivaled, and her mother, who once said, “I want the dedication in your first book to be ‘To my mother, who always believed in me.’” (It’s true.)

Michael E. Reali is a fervent photographer, intermittent painter, incidental mosaicist, desultory traveler, casual gourmand, and practiced chef who once spent a night trapped on a mountainside in Greece with a bull. A native of Philadelphia, his work can be seen on murals throughout the city as well as in the book Old Man Drinks, an assignment that landed him much acclaim and a stint at Betty Ford. 

Mr. Reali possesses a degree in fine art as well as an extra bit of pancreas, making him a curiosity of modern medicine. All of Mr. Reali’s proceeds from this book will go to his favorite charity: The Feed Mike Reali Fund.

Have you ever wished that your grandma had left you a book filled with her favorite tried and tested recipes? Little Old Lady Recipes is like a family heirloom you never had. This little hard cover volume is full of wit and wisdom from ladies who have lived and learned. They have lots of sound (and fun) advice like, "To be bored is to be boring" and "When in doubt, take a covered dish." I also really enjoyed the pictures of the sweet ladies in their own kitchens cooking up a batch of love and goodness. All of the recipes in Little Old Lady Recipes are time tested and solid and will possibly bring back some treasured memories. There are ideas for every time of the day, from Blueberry Muffins and Applesauce for breakfast to Pound Cake and Lemon Meringue Pie for dessert. Little Old Lady Recipes would be a wonderful gift to anyone young or old that appreciates good old home cooking!

Was much smaller than expected, and a lot of the pages are just taken up by pictures of old women. Most of the recipes are very basic, to the point of almost being common sense, even if you don't know how to cook. The quotes and things like that were funny, but overall I wasn't very satisfied. Like I said, it's really small and most of  the recipes are nothing special.
