Editorial Reviews

Kirkus Reviews
A panda-shaped book has immediate appeal, but this pallid effort fails to provide engagement beyond the cover. The bland text sets out to provide some basic facts about panda cubs, but it does so in questionably anthropomorphized fashion and without regard to its baby/toddler audience's developmental level. While panda "moms" do feed and keep their cubs safe, it is an existential stretch to assert that they "teach them all about life." And while it is probably legitimate to say that panda cubs, "[l]ike little boys and girls...love to play," adding "outside" to that phrase falsely implies that wild pandas have an indoor alternative. Finally, although the text correctly states that "pandas don't sleep or hibernate all winter," it's a confusing formulation of specialized vocabulary for the audience. Leave this one behind. (Board book. 18 mos.-4)
