Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Lars, the very happy little polar bear, romps through his icy and snowy playground with his many friends. The story tells how Lars plays hide and seek, splashes, and swims with Greta, his polar bear girlfriend. Lars also likes to hurl snowballs, go snowboarding, and have great adventures with his best friend Robby, the seal. The story will be well received by very young children. The illustrations are delightful and the story concentrates on friendship. I think it would be beneficial to have the animals identified by species and not just name. Older children might understand that Lars is a polar bear and that Robby, his best friend, is a seal. By teaching species, you might better enable small listeners to learn about friendships in the animal kingdom, although polar bears and seals are predator and prey. This story is age appropriate and will be well received in preschools. 2003, Sterling Publishing Co, Ages 2 to 4.
