Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
I have always had a warm spot in my heart for the hard-working Little Red Hen. She finds and plants the seeds to grow wheat, tends it, harvests and threshes the grain and even transports it to the miller and returns home with flour. At each step of the process, she asks her barnyard friends to help, but they always have an excuse—too busy and too lazy. Finally, Little Red Hen makes a loaf of delicious bread. You can almost smell the tantalizing aroma as she takes it from the hot oven. She then asks the barnyard animals who would like to help her eat it, and of course they all have time for that. But Little Red Hen, who has worked so hard to turn her wheat seed into bread, eats it all without any help from her lazy friends. A great morality tale, and also one that teaches the cycle for producing bread—the staff of life for many in this world. It is a storybook that is filled with equally delightful watercolor illustrations. A "Brighter Child Keepsake Story." 2002, McGraw-Hill Children's Publishing,
