In this charming Christmas story, a little seahorse learns of the birth of the newborn King of Peace and decides to bring him a gift from all the creatures in the sea. The oyster gladly offers his most beautiful pearl, the whale and the dolphin carry the tiny seahorse to the ends of the ocean, and thanks to a kindly dove and the miracle of this special night, the seahorse is able to deliver his gift to the Christ Child. Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
In a sort of aquatic version of "The Little Drummer Boy," a seahorse learns of the newborn King and determines to bring him a present. He rallies his undersea friends, finds a gift (a pearl) and, traveling by lantern fish, whale and, finally, by dove, is ferried to the stable. Damjan (Atuk) ably presents the familiar story line, and the unusual setting allows Reichstein's (The Eagle and the Wren) soft, luminescent artwork, rendered in subdued maritime shades, to shine. Ages 5-8. (Sept.) Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.

K-Gr 2-A tiny seahorse notices a bright star in the sky, learns that a new King of Peace has been born, and determines to take him a beautiful pearl that he has gotten from an oyster. Helped by fish, whales, dolphins, and finally a dove, the seahorse makes his way to the stable. Among the other animals admiring the baby are a hippo, a bear, and a crocodile. The illustrations, set against suitably dark backgrounds, are soft, elegant, and luminescent, yet they do not compensate for a contrived story.-S. P. Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.
