This second installment of Dolly's bluegrass trilogy features more of her own songs. She seems more comfortable and several songs stretch out past 5 minutes. Her cover choices are more daring and she leads her backing musicians into music that seems more mountain than bluegrass.I would agree with those who point to Down From Dover and Mountain Angel as the most impressive numbers on the CD. Overall I feel this disc deserves 4 1/2 stars. (I purchased it as part of the Acoustic Collection 1999-2002 set.)

A great, great CD. I've always been a Dolly fan, now I'm a big Dolly fan. Bluegrass is my favorite and she really does it justice on this CD. Shine is awesome!

Produced by Alison Krauss and you can tell. Dollys vocals are great and all the selections on this CD are perfect. The whole CD is wonderful and definitely one of Dollys best so far. Her version of ''Shine'' originally done by Collective Soul is by far the better version. The old Cole Porter classic ''I Get No Kick From Champagne'' is fun too. A few songs have a lovely celtic flavor that I really like. Lots of different type music done up in true bluegrass style that her daddy would be proud of which is why she dedicated this CD to him. I love that. It's a great CD and Dolly needs to work with Alison more often I think! More, Dolly, more!

Well Dolly Parton,is definately one of the few country living legends. And what makes her her so is not just her pretty face and well maintained figure, but its the way she sings her songs..in this album and in all the others..She makes one feel along with her and each of us have had simillar instances in our own lifes. My blue Tears...and Seven Bridges road...are outstanding tracks...and in no way are the other behind...Dolly if you ever visit this site.you music is heard keenly in India as well.

I have been listening to Dolly for thirty years and I think this is her best album. It is so beautifully done. If you don't listen you will never know the joy of listening to a clear, and touching bluegrass album.

As a true Dolly fan, I was hesitant to listen to her latest recording, ''Little Sparrow'', since I wasn't too fond of her Grammy nominated ''The Grass Is Blue.'' I have nothing against blue grass music, but it's not my cup of tea. However, while the new release does contain some blue grass sounds, this CD is GREAT from beginning to end. As each song ended, I prepared myself for a disappointing throw-away song, only to find another totally listenable and enjoyable tune. As I am as fond of Dolly's song-writing as I am of her singing, I would like to see more of her own songs on her CD, but she did a fantastic job with the ones she chose. I was totally looking forward to her re-recording of ''Down From Dover'' and was not disappointed. This album, like Emmylou Harris's ''Red Dirt Girl'' deserves accolades from the CMA, ACM and Grammy's, to mention just a few. Her last recording to even come this close to perfection was ''Slow Dancing With The Moon''. Her choice for ''mountain music'' instead of just ''bluegrass'' music, was a big relief (again, no offense to ''bluegrass'') as it hits the heart more directly. It won't be relegated to the shelf.

Barnes & Noble - Kerry Dexter
From the opening notes of Stuart Duncan's fiddle on the title track through a haunting reprise of the same tune at the end of the disc, the evocative, mostly acoustic Little Sparrow, featuring guest appearances by the likes of Alison Krauss, Rhonda Vincent, Sonya Isaacs, and Rebecca Lynn Howard, finds Dolly Parton revisiting mountain memories of her past and creating a few new ones in the process. The 14 songs include her spooky original tale "Mountain Angel," the intimate evocation of heartbreak "A Tender Lie," and the lighthearted love song "Marry Me." She also adds a Celtic twist to "In the Sweet By and By" with noted Irish folk combo Altan guesting and turns ...
