Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Children's Literature
Big Toot (Little Toot's father) teaches Little Toot about landmarks and finding his way during their trip to visit friends in Maine. Little Toot learns about the surrounding area, and is shown the "Nubble Light" a lighthouse located in Maine. Once there, Little Toot finds a friend in a small rowboat named Bob. After exploring for a while, Little Toot and Bob head for home. Very quickly they are confronted with a severe storm, and are soon lost. Initially Little Toot is upset, but when he sees how scared his friend is he calms down and starts to use the lessons Big Toot taught him. He is able to eventually find the way back by seeing the "Nubble Light." Little Toot comes through once again. A fine story with a good lesson, this book follows the wonderful tradition of the other "Little Toot" books. Any two to six-year-old will appreciate the wonderful illustration of Mark Weber and the subtle lessons in this book--importance of friendship, not panicking when confronted with a scary situation, and listening to those who are older and more knowledgeable. 1999, Grosset & Dunlap Inc., Ages 2 to 6, $2.99.
