All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
No other band in rock's history went to such great lengths to shut down bootleggers as the Dave Matthews Band. They shut down stores that sold live boots of Matthews' concerts and they shut down labels that pressed the bootlegs, essentially crippling the underground industry. That didn't stop the boots completely, however, and Matthews finally retaliated in the fall of 1997 with the double-disc Live at Red Rocks 8.15.95, the first in a series of official live albums from the band. To the outsider, this series might seem a little odd, since the group doesn't have an explicitly fanatical following like those of the Grateful Dead or Phish, but like those two bands,...

To the outsider, this series might seem a little odd, since the group doesn't have an explicitly fanatical following like those of the Grateful Dead or Phish, but like those two bands, the Dave Matthews Band has a similar fondness for improvisation, which makes their live recordings desirable for dedicated fans. Live at Red Rocks 8.15.95 shouldn't disappoint fans already familiar with the band's loose-limbed, jazzy live show, but it should come as a revelation to listeners unacquainted with that aspect of Matthews. In fact, the record often sounds livelier and more energetic than its studio counterparts, and that alone makes it a necessary purchase for dedicated fans.

    Greatest Live Album EVER

Live at Red Rock is simply the best live album I have ever heard. "Two Step" is the most amazing song the intro jam has converted many to DMB fans. Other great song are "Seek Up" and "Recently" that flows with another great jam with a little ditty of John Denver's, yes John Denver, "Sunshine on my Shoulders."

Great Album to Start Off With

Upon being frustrated about why this band has so many fans, I gave in and bought the one a lot of people told me to get. When the CD started - I was hooked. The first track is an awesome blend of simple rock and jazz, but the formula works terrifically. The second track makes you feel like you're high up in the jungle's canopy. The third is a really tuneful melody about satellites. These guys are so inventive it's hard not to appreciate them. Who ever was in charge of sound recording and mastering did a great job, this album booms and trumpets and makes you feel like you are in the front row. It comes in through the speakers crystal clear. Live at Red Rocks is guaranteed to please.

    Best Live Album

If you are looking for a CD to buy...this is it. I've been a long time DMB fan and when this came out it blew me away. The jam at the end of Dancing Nancies going into Warehouse gives me chills everytime I hear it. All Along the Watchtower is stellar and the extra lyrics at the beginning of Recently cracks me up. I strongly recommend all DMB albums - live and studio.

    Whoa man.

This CD is amazing. I have most if not all of DMB's other cd's and I have to say this is the best one. Many of the songs lead into each other, like Two Step into Best of What's Around and the sax solo on Lie in Our Graves is mesmerizing. Warehouse is very intense, as is Rhyme and Reason and Watchtower. Dancing Nancies is nuts aswell. I recommend this disc to any fan of solid music.
