Live at the Algonquinby Michael Feinstein
Michael Feinstein is a one-man repository of the Great American Songbook. A sincere and enthusiastic interpreter of pre-rock popular music, Feinstein is right at home with the work of the Gershwins, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, and a host of other brilliant musical craftsmen. His performances are invariably idiomatically correct and entertaining, as passionately exhibited on this live recording. Here, warhorses ("Blame It on My Youth," "Thanks for the Memory," "I Concentrate on You," "Long Ago and Far Away") mingle with less familiar but equally worthy material ("Rhode Island Is Famous for You," "On Such a Night Like This," "Oh Me, Oh My, Oh You!") -- all of it given straight-from-the-heart readings. If Feinstein lacks Sinatra's vocal powers, he makes up for it by having the master's great love for great songs.

The most fun you'll ever get from listening to Michael. It's like a kaleidoscope of songs - funny, sad, hopeless, hopeful, love reciprocated, and love unrequited. The next best thing is seeing him live.
