Description: This book provides a practical approach for MR imaging of focal and diffuse liver lesions, using state-of-the-art MR imaging sequences, computer-generated drawings, concise figure captions, and relevant differential diagnostic information.
Purpose: The aim is to provide a practical approach to MR imaging of liver lesions resulting in an appropriate management strategy. The MR imaging findings are correlated with ultrasound, computed tomography, and pathology where appropriate, which all results in a very worthwhile teaching experience. This is a fast moving field and the author succeeds in placing this imaging modality in its proper context.
Audience: The author wishes to reach a wide audience including radiologists, gastroenterologists, surgeons, pathologists, MR physicists, MRI clinical scientists, MR technicians, and residents and students in training. This may be somewhat ambitious. This is a very specialized topic which will probably appeal most to MR cognoscenti, hepatologists, and pathologists. The author is a well-recognized authority in this field.
Features: A practical approach is provided to liver MRI to categorize the abnormality into one of five groups; evaluate the signal intensity on fat-suppressed T2-and T1-weighted sequences as well as gadolinium-enhanced images, and systematically categorize the findings, compare, and arrive at differential and definitive diagnosis. The book is divided into high-fluid content and solid liver lesions, diffuse liver diseases, vascular liver lesions, and biliary tree abnormalities. There are superb illustrations and color photographs. The section on differential diagnosis of T2 and T1 bright liver lesions, T2 bright central scars, and fatty liver lesions is outstanding.
Assessment: This is a beautifully produced book with excellent illustrations. It provides a very practical approach to MRI interpretation of liver images with correlation to other more standard techniques. It is an excellent addition to the literature in this field.
