Meet the Author

The Rev. Father Alban Butler was born in 1710 at Appletree, England. While still a youth, he was received into the English College of Douai, Flanders and subsequently ordained a priest in 1735. His Lives of the Saints, originally titled Lives of the Fathers, Martyrs and Principal Saints, was the fruit of about thirty years' research and work. Additionally, he was a persevering, diligent, and hard-working priest who included biographies of over 1,600 saints in his aforementioned literary effort. Father Butler's Lives of the Saints was also printed by TAN in 1995 with the Nihil Obstat and Imprimatur. He died on May 15, 1763.

This book actually DOES have pictures. The sample omits them, but the actual book has them. But even without the pictures, the book would be worth every penny. Alban Butler is a good author with a lot of knowledge about the saints; he is what makes this book the best saint book of all time.

The book gives a thumbnail sketch of the lives of many of the old-time saints. I read about a few each night for devotional purposes.

But don't buy it for the pictures like the other person said, because there are none aside from the cover. The dates are not quite the same as on my traditional calendars, which might be because of leap year or might be because of the new order. But I bought this version because the first review said lots of pictures and I wish I had known the truth before I paid.
