Livin' the Luxury Brown

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Andy Kellman
Livin' the Luxury Brown comes five and a half years after Mint Condition's previous album, Life's Aquarium. An absence of that length would put the average group under a tremendous amount of pressure, especially when a rabid fan base has been left waiting so long. In another sense, Mint Condition is under no pressure whatsoever. Now on their own label, and even more unique than they were in the '90s -- in the entirely self-contained sense of producing, writing, and playing their own instruments -- sales and competition are no longer significant factors. At this stage in their career, all they really care about is making music and playing it live for their followers. And it...

At this stage in their career, all they really care about is making music and playing it live for their followers. And it shows: while occasionally lagging due to the meandering and indulgence that often comes with boundless freedom, Livin' the Luxury Brown is the group's fifth straight out of five strong album. You can tell they've spent a good amount of their time away soaking up more influences from the '60s and '70s, but they've obviously kept up with modern R&B as well. Even a couple unexpected rock-out moments especially the middle patch of "Fallin' Apart" are pulled off with a tremendous amount of conviction. They've done their early mentors, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, proud.

    Truly musical

Once again excellent. Good to hear a real band again. Someone should have done more promotionals. But if you are true lover of music you wouldn't miss out on MC.

    Musical Geniuses

Mint Condition is and always will be the best group ever. Stokley is beyond any rating. He is the king of all music. This group should never break up.

    My Definition of a Band

I became a MintCondtion fanin 1998, aroung the same time as "Definition of a Band" came out.I myself, being a musician, thought they would never be able to top that awesome album, I still listen to it all the time. But when " Livin' the Luxury Brown" came out it was and is nothing short of amazing. The vocals, the music, the evident evolution of the band, and soul stirring lyrics. If your a long time fan or one who doesn't even know who "Mint Condition" is, I promise, you won't be disappointed. Always Sincere jOeL

MC Is Back! The Wait Was Worth It

Livin' the Luxury Brown is right in line with what I've grown to expect from MC, a gumbo mix of genres to form the unique MC sound. I hate that the issues between the group and Keri Lewis and switching labels held up any releases after the last LP, "Life's Aquarium", but nonetheless, MC is back. You have to be a true "FOOM" (friends of our music, as Stokely refers to MC fans) to know that this album was released, no marketing, no nothing, they tried to sneak this one in on us, but I got it. Great job MC for keeping the sound alive, real music from a real band. You have to add this LP to your music library!

What A Flawless CD! Welcome back!

This CD has left me pretty awestruck! I'm just blown away buy the sheer beauty, emotion and electricity that this CD offers. Stokely has just raw emotion when he sings. The musicianship on this CD is breathtaking. Yes it is R&B but much much more! It offers Rock, jazz fusion and alternative beats. Outkast produced a song and when you hear the song you'll know from the flavor of the song! This CD is just heartfelt--the songs and lyrics are just so intense. The band just outplayed themselves if thats possible...They are just ferocious with the insrumentation! I loved EVERY SONG and I have throughly enjoyed my journey Livin The Luxury Brown.
