Most of us love simplicity and hate complexity. We feel better sticking hard-to-understand things into easily understandable boxes. Unfortunately, this human inclination usually produces more confusion than clarity. Dr. Betty Hassler helps us counter our natural tendencies to do that with God. By oversimplifying Him, we misunderstand Him. And that makes life tougher for us. She helps us turn the focus knob to bring God into clearer view. How can you intimately know the infinitely mysterious God?

If you have ever found yourself wondering why bad things happen to good people, or vice versa, you'll like this book

Dr. Betty Hassler skillfully uses a fictional character's issues with God and problems with his marriage to illustrate biblical truths about bouncing between the ditches on the highway of life.

Layton's story will make you want to flip to the next chapter to see what's going to happen, but you'll resist that urge in order to reflect on the truths you will find in the non-fiction parts.

If you are a Christ-follower, this book will help you understand God on a deeper level. You'll find yourself quoting it to help others grow closer to God.

If you are still on the path toward believing, you'll find wisdom here that will help you answer some of life's hardest questions.

    Timeless Message for Unsure Times

Dr. Betty Hassler has written the book I've been living recently. For much of my Christian life, I have felt very comfortable with God in a box, albeit, a structure built on Bible-based principles. A few years ago, God jumped out of my box and invited me to follow Him into the Mystery of a wild and wonderful life lived most fully by holding His hand. Living Between the Ditches is a masterful invitation to know God as Truth and Grace, Rock and Breath, Eternally and In-the-Moment.but always as Love.

A Fun Read with Depth and Heart

There's Dr. Phil. Dr. Laura. And now Dr. Betty! Dr. Betty Hassler's fascinating book, Ditches, is a must-read for any Christian who lives in an imperfect world.

This author has a way with words. She combines her literary genius with wisdom from life experience and personal familiarity with the God of the universe. Result? A fun read with depth and heart.

As a child of God who has personally felt His loving rescue from the ditches of life, I can assure you that this book will inspire you. It will reaffirm the truth that God loves us enough to help keep balance during stressful days of our lives. What a God! And what a book! Thanks, Dr. Betty, for the reminder. Well done.

We have all spent time in the ditches of our lives...

We have all spent time in the ditches of our lives...broken dreams, betrayals, set backs, and losses. In between the ditches sits the narrow road. Betty Hassler does an extraordinary job at unpacking the reality of life in the ditches, which we all have experienced but also giving us vision for seeking the narrow road. Hassler has hit it out of the park with biblical truth, the compelling story of a 30-something living in today's world and the vision for us all that the narrow road is the safest place on earth.

    Creative and insightful

In Living Between the Ditches, Betty Hassler helps people grasp the wonder, the complexity, and the mystery of following Christ. Too often, well-meaning teachers try to blend and balance opposing biblical truths (like God's immanence and transcendence), robbing them of their power. Theologian G. K. Chesterton wrote, "Christianity got over the difficulty of combining furious opposites, by keeping them both, and keeping them furious." Keeping them opposite and furious a source of depth and strength in spiritual life.
