Varun Khanna was born in the United States, and was raised to appreciate Indian culture and values by his parents. After completing the Pre-Medicine course and majoring in Mathematics at Saint Louis University while pursuing his interest in Neuroscience, he became fascinated by Sanskrit and its potential applications in modern science. He proceeded to travel extensively in India and pursued his study of Sanskrit in many centers of learning there. He stayed for a year in Sringeri, Karnataka to learn more Sanskrit and got in touch with the traditional method of learning the language. He went on to attend Cambridge University to pursue his Master of Philosophy degree in Sanskrit, and is currently there.
