Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 3-6-- Attractive and informative titles. Creatures from dragonflies to horseshoe crabs are examined in Living Fossils . Pope explores the reasons for their time-warp existence and presents several other examples from the plant and animal world. Tom McGowen's Album of Prehistoric Animals (Checkerboard, 1989) and Derek Hall's Prehistoric Mammals (Watts, 1984; o.p.) include extinct animals as well as some ``living fossils.'' Two Lives describes how organisms develop into adulthood, with an emphasis on the metamorphosis of larvae. Unusual examples of amphibians, insects, fishes, and other sea life are discussed and profusely illustrated with good quality, full-color photographs and drawings. Similiar in content to Patricia Quiri's Metamorphosis (Watts, 1991), this is a well-done introduction that will be useful for reports.-- Cynthia M. Sturgis, Ledding Library, Milwaukie, OR
