Overview

The increasing complexities and mysteries of life have inspired a journey back to the essential teachings of the world's ancient religions. Drawing on basic Buddhist tenets, Living Kindness helps the seeker on that journey. The same principles that guided the historical Gautama Buddha on his path to enlightenment are here — generosity, effort, patience, ethics, simplicity and meditation, wisdom, thoughtfulness, steadfastness, equanimity, and loving-kindness. Poetically drawn stories and anecdotes from the author's life and the lives of his teachers demonstrate how these ten principles endure in the rituals and practices of many of the world's great religions — and how they apply to modern living. The clarity, comfort, and guidance found in this book will help to teach and inspire sacred living.

    Great Introduction to Buddhist Principles

I work at a bookstore and about a year ago I wanted to find a book on basic Buddhist principles. I went to the section and was overwhelmed-I didn't know what to pick. I 'gave up' that day, and then a few days later I saw we were having an event in our store with a local Buddhist monk who had written a book on, guess what, introductory Buddhist principles. I went to the event, and was so inspired by Donald's short yet profound talk. I remember walking out of the store with a great sense of wellbeing. I know the universe was looking out for me and had led me to something really good. This book is a great find for anybody starting out. It is simple enough for a novice to understand, but it is also rich and complex-I have read many parts over again and learned something new that I hadn't seen before. Things are taught to us when we are ready, and this book came to me when I was ready for it. I highly recommend this book!
