I have the first edition of this and got this edition because of the updated information. If you are interesting in learning the basic principles of Living Low Carb this is the perfect book. They take all the major low carb diets and break them down an easy to understand summaries. The first part of the book gets heavy with the scientific information as to why low carb diets work. There is also a section where they cover other major diets that are lower carb but not are considered by some to be low carb. I highly recommend it for those from beginers to experts in Living Low Carb as a life style.

All the information you require to decide whether or not you will follow/maintain a low-carb diet. Presented in an easy to read and understand manner, the author provides medical and scientific research as well as information on how research results are derived. You will learn the effects of protein, fats and carbohydrates in and on your body, get answers to the most frequently asked questions about low carb dieting, and reviews of popular low carb diets. The book is well organized and designed so that you can get a lot of information regardless of from where you start (info is repeated in some chapters, but if you are like me and skip around in such a book, this is a great help. If you are one to read cover to cover, the repetion only reinforces what you are learning.) Whether you are considering a low-carb lifestyle or are already on one and need simply to dispel the fear in friends and family, this is a book that you will keep to reference and to motivate yourself for years to come.

Living Low Carb presents the latest research about low carb diets, their benefits, and how to choose the one that is right for each individual. Bowden addresses the myths surrounding low carb eating, gives tips for succeeding with this type of diet, how to talk to one's doctor about it, and gives a comprehensive list of vitamins and supplements that help improve insulin resistance, high cholesterol and other health issues that high carb eating can cause. I appreciate that Bowden isn't afraid to point out the unhealthy cons about some of the low carb diets while letting readers know which ones really work and why. He has long been an expert on the low carb lifestyle and has seen it work very well in reversing health issues for his clients. As someone who needs to be on a low carb diet, I especially benefited from the chapter of tips for succeeding with this type of eating and the section of resources and support was also helpful. This book confirms for me that the question isn't why do low carb diets become a fad then go away for a while, but rather why do they keep coming back? The answer is, because they work when they are done with an informed, healthful, common sense approach.

I have never read a book with so much detail as to your health, foods you should not eat and why. It scared me so bad that I was dressed and out the door before daylight to buy foods we need to eat. It is explained so that you don't have to read it twice. You'll get the message. Anybody that doesn't comply is not wanting to live a long, healthy life. Just sayin...

This book was wonderful! I have been a real follower of Atkins for years and this author also talks about 29 other low-carb diets that he has looked at evaluated in great detail. Very science-based and enjoyable!
