Living Proof [Import]

All Music Guide - Kerry L. Smith
Cher returns to the dancefloor for her latest effort, Living Proof, churning out a dozen electronic, beat-heavy tracks about heartbreak, loneliness, and survival. Songs about strength and perseverance are no anomaly coming from a woman who has managed to sustain a career that has lasted four decades; and it's no mystery that Cher would be the first to be right there when you fall, telling you to get up on your feet, dust yourself off, and get out on that dancefloor. And get up you will, with this peppy dance album that spouts warm sentiments and reverberating sounds to keep you going all night long. But the power of the album's punch loses its luster each time the ...

But the power of the album's punch loses its luster each time the auto-tuner kicks in, contorting Cher's deep, sexy voice into some kind of canned electronic robot dialect. It's not until halfway through the album that listeners get a glimmer of Cher's husky vocals on the dressed-down track, "Rain, Rain." Cher takes a brief break from her inquisitiveness about love to dedicate the bold, heartfelt opening track, "Song for the Lonely," in honor of the September 11th tragedy, to "the courageous people of New York, especially the firefighters, police, Mayor Giuliani, Governor Pataki." You can bet the clubkids and long-term Cher fans will appreciate the energy and attitude of the Spanish-influenced tune "Body to Body, Heart to Heart," and the rapidfire drum beats on the airy track "When the Money's Gone" are likely to keep them dancing until dawn. Cher has longtime producer Rob Dickins the man who launched Enya's career to thank for the sheer energy on this album. But still, the lingering sense of loss and longing echoing through on tracks like "The Music's No Good Without You" suggest that maybe Cher isn't the only one left still waiting for something truly magical to happen on this record.

She's back and you better Believe it!

When I put the CD into the player, goosebumps erupted across my body. I was so excited for her becuase I knew she had another hit on her hands--in fact several new hits. Unlike the Believe album that had two or three excellent songs, Living Proof is full of mind blowing excitement. Try to listen to ''A Song for the Lonely'' without wanting to dance--its impossible.

    The Return Of Cher

This new CD is fantastic! Standout songs are, ''Song For The Lonely'' which is dedicated to the heroes of September 11th. This song will have you standing up and cheering! Next it's time to get back to the dance floor with ''Different Kind Of Love Song''. If this doesn't get your toes tapping nothing will. ''Alive Again'' is reported to be the theme song for the Winter Olympics. Cher also does a great remake of the dance classic, ''Love One Another''. This is a much stronger album as a whole then ''Believe''. Get this! You won't regret it.

    CHER & Cher Alike

She's done it again! The original mother of self re-invention in the music world has compiled yet another CD that can be enjoyed by old and new Cher fans alike. The 12 new tracks range from latin to dance to soft rock to just plain mellow! There's a little something for everyone. My current favorites are Rain, Rain (which sounds like a song Mary J. Blige could rework into a great R&B hit), and Body to Body which has a great salsa/latin feel to it. I can't wait to see what the remix artists are going to do with this record. A lot of studio effects went into this album, but the true Cher definitely surfaces throughout the record!

Living Proof surpasses Believe (What? Can it be true?)

''Nordic Cher'' (cool cover photo) has outdone herself with this follow-up to the awesome Believe album. More great dance tunes, her unique vocal style, and that Cher-bot voice is back. Cher is living proof that many things improve with age. (Not that she needed much improving.) Cher is blowing them away in Europe with the album now. No doubt she will take the US by storm as well. One thing's for sure, you can't help but smile while listenning to this album.

    Cher #1

Cher is back, and she's 'Living Proof'. This album is amazing. Featuring such dance hits as ''The Music's No Good Without You'', ''A Different Kind of Love Song'' and ''Alive Again''. Fantastic follow-up to ''Believe''.
