Grollman, the internationally known lecturer, writer, and grief counselor, and Max Malikow, a psychotherapist and pastoral counselor, offer solace and guidance to adolescents who are confronted with someone of their own age who is contemplating or has committed suicide.

Editorial Reviews

VOYA
You have just learned that a friend has committed suicide. What do you do now? The grief, anger, guilt, and other emotions that one might experience are described in this thoughtful book, intended to help young people coping with a sad and difficult time. In a calm and conversational style, two wellknown counselors offer their thoughts and insights to troubled teens. This compassionate and gentle volume addresses many of the issues raised by suicide including the religious questions triggered by such a death, what one may expect to feel immediately after this event, how to tell if someone is suicidal, and even how to talk to the family of the victim. Young people facing the terrible and all too frequent occurrence of teen suicide will find this a warm and soothing source of help and counsel. The authors avoid the pitfalls of selfhelp books and manage to sound neither preachy nor overbearing. Living When a Young Friend Commits Suicide: Or Even Starts Talking about It is not meant to be used for research papers because it does not contain statistics or facts about teen suicide. Instead, the book achieves its goal by providing young adults with answers and guidance as they deal with one of life's greatest tragedies. Further Reading. I really dont understand why im still alive. I cut myself and ive tried killing myself before. Ppl think i do it for attention. If they think u do it for attention y did it take a full year formy mother to find out that i was cutting? It took two cops to come to my house at 8 at night cuz they saw a suicide note in the garbage. I dont know how they knew it was me. I think about cutting and dying everyday. Ive stopped for almost 2 months but my parents and other are so mean to me. They dont care. The only reason im still here is because im in love with my bf. His name is cruzito biddle. Hes amazing. Dont take your life away

Everybody has to understand one thing.... Dont let people judge you. Thier opinion dosent matter. Dont take your like becuase someone makes fun, hurts, or torments you. If you ar egetting bullied move schools, tell your parents. If your parents are mean to you tell a relative or someone you can trust or have a close relationship with. You could even liv with the, if your parents dont treat you well. Just remember when your commoting suicide, your helping the bully, you are making them more confident so they will go ahead and do the same thing to another kid. All im trying to say is dont take you life away.

No, never forget. Just dont dwell on them for long. Those who are dead live on in our memories and as long as we shall live they will not die. That is what i beleive, that we must simply move on, but we must never forget them. I miss her alot but since she isnt coming back i must move on and live the rest of my life.

    From preston

No matter what you are going through, just remember that someone loves you, remember that you are someones reason to live and that there is someone somewhere who cares for you. You matter to someone and that is a reason to live. Three months ago my girlfriend commited suicide because she was bi, and because of that people bullied her. She shot herself when her parents were gone, and when i rode my bike to her house to see why she wasnt answering my calls i found my girlfriend lying dead on the ground with half her skull missing and a gun in her hand. Im only f*ucking fourteen. Why does this s*hit happen? Someone please tell me why. -im sorry to anybody ive ever treated badly, im so sorry.

    Very Comforting

Although I don't have much to say...I just wants others interested in this book to know that it is very comforting. After the death of a young friend, many teens feel confused and depressed, and almost always ask 'why'? I know I did after I lost two good friends to suicide. The book helps teens to understand the situation and how to deal with it. I found the book helpful and think others will too.
