Meet the Author

Scott Cunningham practiced magic actively for over twenty years. He was the author of more than fifty books covering both fiction and non-fiction subject matter; sixteen of his titles are published by Llewellyn Publications. Scott's books reflect a broad range of interests within the New Age sphere, where he was very highly regarded. He passed from this life on March 28, 1993, after a long illness.

Read an Excerpt

One of the things author Scott Cunningham realized was that if Wicca was going to continue to expand, it needed to reach people who could not find groups to join. Several of the books he wrote were aimed at solitary practitioners.

Is that you? Are you working on your own? For many solitary Wiccans, the Craft is something they do for magic or for celebrations. For Scott, it was something that filled his life. Now - with the help of Living Wicca, one of the vital books for solitary Pagans - Wicca can fill your life too.

In this book you'll learn about magical tools, how to cast a circle, and how to raise magical power. You'll learn the meanings of over 120 Wiccan symbols and how you can magically use them. You'll discover the power of Wiccan prayers throughout the day and how you can use them to make yourself aware that the God and Goddess are everywhere.

But what I really like about this book is that Scott doesn't tell you what to think as a Wiccan, but shows you how to think as a Wiccan. The book doesn't tell you what to learn, it shows you how to learn. He shows how experimentation is important. He gives you a design for considering what others say and what you think. The importance of independent thought is stressed throughout the book.

Scott also discusses self-initiation, whether to do rituals when you are ill, what the real Wiccan mysteries are, and even ways for you to decide on a magical name.

Over 170,000 people are now using Living Wicca. You should be one of them.

    Excellent

I would say the best aspect of this book is that it separates Wicca from the practice of magic (although magic still is touched on). Finally, here is a book that focuses primarily on the religious part of the path, which is a great help if you are partial to the craft, but question if Wicca is for you. Too many books make it seem like to practice the craft, one must also be Wiccan. I, myself, am not Wiccan. This book helped me to evaluate my beliefs and attitudes, and see if there is a snug fit with Wicca, so I could come to the conclusions I did. Even after making the decision, I still have this book around, as it has some great information on seasonal rituals, symbols, among other things. A great book for self exploration.

Another GREAT book for Dedicants to Wicca

Cunningham does introductary Wicca supurbly! This book along with it's companion 'Wicca:' are just perfect. Read these, re-read these and then visit them again years later and you can find new and wonderful words there every time.

Excellent addition to the first book

I read the first book 'Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner' and it was wonderful. I bought this one at the same time, so I read them back to back. And even though some of it explains the same things again...it's still wonderful, and helps understand things better. I recommend this to be read after the first one..I use them both hand and hand all the time. Wonderful for beginners, and for advanced that want to brush up.

    Living Wicca

This book goes past the magick of the religion. The book goes into the religous part of wicca such as what to do when you are sick and how to build your own traditions. Thanks to the wonderful scott cum, I now have my own tradiations and I am not feeling as if I am not doing things right.

    Excellent companion to 'Wicca'

This one is a little deeper than Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner, but it is still a beginner book. Well-written, of course, and very useful.

    Highly Recommended

I have required this book for all my fellow coven members. Even though we usually work in groups, I find it useful nonetheless, especially for managing and planning your Spellbook (Book of Shadows).

    My first Book

This was the first book I read. I recently read it again and I must say, it made more sense after reading some more books and webpages. I never read the first one and still to this day cannot find it in any book stores in my area. However, I do reccommend it to anyone. I agree, Cunningham is a very good writer.

    NOT THE BEST

no, its not the best book, but if ur lookin for info on symbols its good. but if ur lookin for something that goes into complete detail then this book is not for u. i nomally like scott cunningham books but not this one to much. i would give it back to the library but my dog chewed it up so now im stuck with it.

    Living Wicca

I must say, this book really is open minded and not mind boggling, and not basic. This book teaches you to take what you know from all of those Wicca 101 books and create your own way of Wicca. If teaches you how to write effective rituals and sabbaths. It is simple and enjoyable. I would recemmend this book to anybody who wants to learn more than what a 101 could teach you!

A great follow up to 'Wicca: A guide for the Solitary Practitioner'

This book further explains Solitary Wicca in the best possible way I can imagine. I studied this and 'Wicca' before I gave my mind, body, and soul to the the God & Goddess and this is one of the most informative books out there for Solitary Practitioners. A MUST HAVE!!

    Scott's Living Wicca...

One thing I really appreciate about this book is that it offers information on touchy issues-such as being sick and performing a ritual. I thought this book needed to be recognized for that. As long as I could remember I couldn't find another book that told you want to do in situations such as those. It's so great that Scott Cunnigham included a section in this book on being Ill and doing Magick.

    Very Helpful

This book has been very helpful to me. Me and one of my friends used a protection spell from it and it worked great. It talks more in depth then many other books and it is overall very helpful.
