Description: While there is a plethora of information available regarding hospice, palliative care, and bereavement, there is still very little attention paid to the loss and grief experienced by children. Many adults choose to protect children by avoiding the topic completely. However, experience has shown this approach to be ineffective and in some instances, harmful.
Purpose: The purpose is to explore and attempt to understand the grief experience of children and adolescents. This underserved population needs clinicians who are educated about and understand their special requirements. This text provides a provocative look into the grief experienced by children through case studies and theory application.
Audience: This text is designed for adults involved with children and adolescents. The lay person and clinician alike will benefit from the editor's knowledge and experience. The contributors are leaders in the field of hospice and bring a unique insight to the material presented.
