School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 4-8 This gem of a book is a wonderful vehicle for introducing youngsters to the fascinating world of plants and animals and their interrelationship. The format is eye-catching, and the book covers a wide range of topicsfrom communication, tool usage, and plants of prey and courtship to zoo news and endangered species. All are arranged in a logical progression from the general world of plants and animals to unique specializations. A wide assortment of colorful, well-labeled photographs and diagrams, and ``Did you know?'' facts (for example, did you know that a Venus fly-trap can trap a small frog?) accompany each two-page spread. A cover with a chameleon zapping a bumblebee, tongue lobbing out for a perfect shot, is sure to catch a youngster's eye; once seated with this book, the child will be hooked. It's a good, fun-to-read science book that is guaranteed to circulate. Pam Spencer, Mount Vernon High School, Alexandria, Va.
