It’s almost time for summer vacation, and Liz is looking forward to sleeping in, taking an art class, and spending plenty of time with her friends at The Critter Club! Between fun summer plans and busy petsitting schedules, the girls are going to have their hands full. Though she’s not thrilled to be stuck in summer school, Liz works hard—and learns a lesson even more important than fractions.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Heidi Hauser Green
The approach of summer vacation means looking forward to the joys of the season for best friends Ellie, Amy, Marion, and Liz. The girls have a full schedule of pet sitting ahead of them, as well as work on their animal rescue shelter, the Critter Club. Thatis not all they are looking forward to. There is music camp for Marion, helping out at the vet clinic for Amy, outings with Nana Gloria for Ellie, and art class for Liz ... or is there? Called into the principal's office on the last day of school, Liz finds out that her mom has decided to enroll her in a whole month of "Math Summer School." Liz has to miss her beloved art class to spend extra time honing her skills on her weakest subject. It is a hard decision to swallow, at first. But once Liz gets into the classroom, she finds she likes the teacher, as well as her new friends Robert and Laura. At least she still has her afternoons for the Critter Club ... and on her way to summer school, she finds another "new friend" who brings her two summer causes together. As the summer progresses, Liz gains confidence in math, enjoys caring for the class pet, and learns she does not have to miss art after all. It is a summer of success for sure! Part of the "Critter Club" series, which also includes Amy and the Missing Puppy, All About Ellie, and Marion Takes a Break. With appealing characters, realistic plots, and engaging subject matter, this series is highly recommended. Reviewer: Heidi Hauser Green

Meet the Author

Callie Barkley loves animals. As a young girl, she dreamed of getting a cat or dog of her own until she discovered she was allergic to most of them. It was around this time that she realized the world was full of all kinds of critters that could use some love. She now lives with her husband and two kids in Connecticut. They share their home with exactly ten fish and a very active ant farm.

Marsha Riti illustrated the picture book The Picky Little Witch by Elizabeth Brokamp. She lives in Austin, Texas, where she likes to take long walks, stopping frequently to pet neighborhood kitties.

I got the first 10 books in paperback for my granddaughter for her seventh birthday. She truly loves these books and the adventures Liz, Amy, Marion and Ellie experience. These books teach lessons of kindness, friendship and forgiveness to others. Which is what my family encourages toward others. We love reading each girls adventure. You will not be disappointed!
