Elizabeth, who died in February 2001 while returning from a book promotion tour to Alaska, was the first mystery author ever inducted into the North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame. A native of Raleigh, North Carolina, and a graduate of Vassar College, she created the very memorable sleuth Peaches Dann, the absent minded detective - one of the most unforgettable and original crime solvers in the mystery genre. Like her sleuth, Elizabeth loved the North Carolina Mountains, and made her home there for the last 30 years of her life.
